Key reason no. 1: Brain development

During the first 1000 days a baby needs plenty of nourishment, a healthy and secure environment and the right sort of stimulation to grow his or her brain fully.

There is a lot of growing to be done.  Did you know, for example, that -

  • A baby’s brain is only 15% formed at birth.
  • Most of the remaining 85% is formed in the first 1000 days of life.
  • At birth a human brain weighs 300g.
  • By the age of three years old it weighs 1.2kg.
  • An adult brain weighs 1.4kg.

Everything the child sees, touches, tastes, smells or hears helps to grow the brain for thinking, feeling, moving and learning.  So it is critical that the child gets the right sort of stimulation and in the right amount to ensure good brain growth.
